Role and ResponsibilitiesThe duties of the teacher may include, but are not limited to the following tasks:
Instruction

  • Providing science instruction to students in grades in High School
  • Willingly assisting the instructional process in its many forms
  • Supporting school-wide instructional initiatives
  • Implementing French Ministry of Education Science curriculum along with Louisiana Science Standards
  • Gathering student data through observation, dialogue, testing tools, etc., and designing strategies to meet student needs
  • Create daily lesson plans and learning activities for students based on national, local and school standards in science education and research and knowledge of developmental behaviors
  • Design and deliver high-quality, engaging instruction in the form of discussion, demonstrations, labs, and projects using a variety of proven methods
  • Differentiate lessons when needed to give all students access to the curriculum regardless of disability, instructional level, English proficiency or level of interest in the subject
  • Evaluate student performance on tasks established by the standards using different methods such as observation, performance-based tasks or other standard test practices
  • Improve skills and knowledge in teaching by regularly taking classes, attending workshops and discovering new methods of delivering exciting content to students.
  • Maintaining an accurate and current gradebook, tracking student data, and drafting report cards.
  • Conducting school-wide benchmark and state assessmentsCommunity-Based Learning Initiatives
    • Assisting in the delivery of curriculum that utilizes community resources to enrich the learning experiences of students
    • Planning and chaperoning field trips and projects related to Lycee's Thinking Outside the Classroom ProgramOther Duties
      • Effectively communicating with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement
      • Participating in SBLC, IEP, and 504 meetings as needed
      • Supporting students and administration in Positive Behavior Intervention and Support philosophy
      • Assisting students in adopting a behavior conducive to success in the classroom setting
      • Participating in faculty meetings and professional learning communities meetings
      • Assisting in orientation and open houses if requested
      • Modeling non-discriminatory practices in all activities
      • Performing other job related functions as may be assigned
      • Being punctual, reviewing and following all Staff Handbook policies and procedures

        Expectations, Educational Requirements
        • Bachelor's degree or higher
        • Experience in instruction in an elementary, middle, or secondary school setting
        • Flexibility and a team-spirit work ethic
        • Well developed interpersonal skills
        • Remaining current with Louisiana Student Standards and other instructional requirements
        • Ability to work in a diverse environment with a multicultural team
        • Ability to learn and adapt to new curriculum (French Ministry of Education science curriculum) Preferred Qualifications
          • Louisiana Certification
          • Three or more years teaching experience
          • Fluency in French
          • Experience in differentiating instruction and supporting students with learning challenges.
